Hypertension is the textbook silent disease — no symptoms until something serious goes wrong. In rural communities, many people don’t know their blood pressure numbers, and don’t think to check them until they’re already in a crisis. The first step toward managing it is making the measurement itself routine, and putting the apparatus in patients’ own homes.

MERF’s hypertension camps combine screening with patient education and the free distribution of BP monitoring devices to those most at risk. Once people can check their pressure at home, they begin to recognise patterns — what makes it spike, what brings it down. That’s where management actually begins.
